BACKGROUND
Many visitors to the Balnarring Coast are not aware that it's possible to walk long the beach all the way from the HMAS Cerberus restricted boundary fence to Flinders Beach.

The approximate length is 22 km.

The Walk is best done in short sections, spread over several days!

The main access points providing car parking are:
  • Sandy Point Rd (east of Somers Beach)
  • Somers Foreshore
  • Balnarring Foreshore
  • Balnarring Beach
  • Merricks Beach
  • Pt Leo Beach
  • Shoreham Beach
  • Flinders Foreshore
  • Flinders Pier
  • Flinders West Ocean Beach
Careful! This walk or any part of it should only be attempted at low tide. At high tide the beaches adjacent to the cliffs are impassable, leaving walkers stranded! Tide times are available from the Internet.

Care is also needed when negotiating the two creek outflows - these are

  • Merricks Creek Estuary (west end of Somers Beach)
  • Stony Creek (at east end of Shoreham Beach)
  • East  Creek (east of Pt Leo)

The route generally follows sandy beaches - some sections are adjacent to rock pools.

The author has walked this route both ways!
