A
fine water tower, making a conspicuous landmark in the district, was
recently erected at the reservoir in Elgar Rd, Box Hill. In the tower
is installed an electric pump, which pumps the water from
the reservoir to the top of the tower, thus increasing the pressure
of water and resulting in a bettor service to residents of the higher
portions of Surrey Hills, Balwyn and Mont Albert.
At the last meeting
of Box Hill council favourable comment was made on the artistic
appearance of the tower. Cr. Baker said public bodies generally put up
structures more useful than ornamental. but the board was to be
commended for the way it had erected this tower. The council decided to
congratulate the board on the work. (The Age, May 31 1929)
