BETTER WATER SUPPLY - LARGE MAIN BEING LAID AT RINGWOOD.

Good progress, is being made in the laying of a third large water main for ten miles, from the Silvan aqueduct at Olinda to the large service reservoir at Mitcham, which has been proceeding since the beginning of the year. The

work, which will cost over £100,000 is now in progress in White Horse-road, Ringwood, and considerable excavation is necessary to enable the huge 46-inch mains to be placed in position. It is hoped by the Metropolitan Board that the new main, together with an enlargement of the Olinda aqueduct and the construction of a main from Mitcham to the service reservoir at Surrey Hills, will enable better service and pressure for Kew and Richmond in summer months. The main now being laid will be completed before the end of the year. The illustration show a mechanical excavator at work,
