1962 January races!

Note: This Section has been updated in March 2013, thanks to information kindly made available by present and former residents of Bright, and from examination of various editions of the Bright Historical Newsletters

A car racetrack was opersting in Bright in the early 1960s, located off the Great Alpine Rd, just east of the town, off Coronation Avenue. It is believed that this racing started in the 1950s.

The author and his brother visited this track in January 1962 - see photo!

It was located on the site of the early horse-racing track, which closed down in 1946.

Car racing continued into the early/mid 1960s, when the site became known as Pioneer Park.

See the  map (below) of the car tracing track, superimposed on a 2013 Google Earth image!
