Background
The former Mont Albert Progress Association can be
traced back to 1914, when meetings were held in the Parish Hall, Mont Albert Rd.
Committee Meetings
were held monthly, and there were annual meetings.
An early major task was to determine its physical
boundaries.
These were:
East - Elgar Rd
South - Canterbury
Rd
West - Inglesby Rd - York Rd - Mont Albert Rd (as far as the railway gates) - Leopold Crescent - Albert
St - Balmoral Avenue
Reports of the Association's work were published in the Melbourne Argus and
the Box Hill Reporter - the final report was dated 1929. No further reports after that year were found, and it is assumed
that the Association had been disbanded by then.
In that era, many "Associations" of residents
had been formed around Melbourne, designed to bring important issues to Shires and local authorities.
