Sporting-based Clubs
Several
clubs in Mont Albert and Mont Albert North cater for the needs of people of all ages wishing to participate in activities
including netball, basketball, swimming, athletics, track/field, and gymnasium. Some of these originated
in the early 1900s.
Mont Albert Netball Club
Welcome to the Mont Albert Netball Club. We are a community-based
club
that strives to give all girls and boys the opportunity to play netball
with players of a similar age and ability. To achieve this we grade
all players from Year 4-9.
The Mont Albert Netball Club began in 1995 when Kaye Tomlinson got a
group of her 5-year-old daughter’s Mont Albert Primary School friends
together and formed a team. Kaye was a state netballer and netball had
been a big part of her life. She wanted to offer her children the
opportunity to be involved in a sport that she loved. As some of the
girls were only 5, they formed a Netta group and trained once a week at
the Mont Albert Primary School outdoor netball court but didn’t play in a
competition.
Surrey Hills Bowls Club
This
began in 1912, where there were two links at 10 Wilson St. In 1916 -1917 teams were fielded in the Pennant Competitions. The "A"
team entered Pennant in 1919 and remained there until about 1959.
The club has now been closed.
