INFORMATION
Several roadways were built in 1964 specifically
for the Jamboree. Most of these survive, for walking, cycling, jogging, and running. They are gated to allow vehicle
access only for park management and fire control.
Note:
Prior to 1968, Bradfield Rd was the former name for Churchill Park Drive, and for historical consistency is used in this
Chapter, where appropriate
Baden Powell Drive
(extant)
This was the longest internal roadway, 3.2 km, linking Bradfield Rd and Power Rd. Roadways at the
time of the Jamboree, connecting to Baden Powell Drive, were Lansdowne Rd. Belair Avenue, Brady Rd, Lea Drive, and Challenge
Valley Drive.
The following roadways linking to Baden Powell Drive were added after the
Jamboree ended -
Wonga Track (leading to Challenge Valley Wetland), Frank Holohan soccer facility.
BP Drive was the main commercial entrance to the Camp.
Lea Drive (no
trace remains)
Off Baden Powell Drive, and ended at Power Rd - now buried under vegetation and weeds
- the locked gate survives. This roadway, is now buried under weeds and blackberries. This linked to "The Lea" (ie,
"Meadow"), which ultimately became a council tip, then a Retarding Basin for flood mitigation.
Clifford Park Rd (extant)
A 1 km link from Bradfield Rd to Landsdowne Rd (northern
access now blocked at present day Churchill Park Drive by a high cyclone wire fence - southern access open from Lansdowne
Rd)
Frankston Drive (extant)
A 1 km roadway linking Bradfield
Rd with the Jamboree General Administration HQ area. A security hut, hospital and the Jamboree Newspaper editorial office
were located at the turn-off.
Challenge Valley Drive (now a
shared track to the Wetland)
A short access roadway linking Baden Powell Drive with the Challenge Valley
(no trace remains).
GreenbanksAvenue (extant)
A short roadway
linking Brady Rd with the Main Arena.
Belair Avenue (extant)
A
1 km roadway linking Greenbank Avenue with Baden Powell Drive.
